The reason why Adobe Photoshop is the most popular photo editing software is its user experience. Adobe Photoshop is very easy to use and the functions are organized for your use. Adobe Photoshop was invented by Thomas and John Knoll in 1988. But in 1989, John sold the program to Adobe Company. After then the software is known as “Photoshop”. Adobe Photoshop is an offline-based software. To use this software you have to purchase it from Adobe’s official site “https://www.adobe.com/“. Then you have to install the software on your computer to use.
Adobe Photoshop is only made for macOS and Windows. It is not available for Linux users!
What IS Pen Tool?
Pen Tool’ is one of the most popular terms in the image industry, especially among adobe photoshop users. Basically, Pen Tool is known as ‘Path Creator’. Pen Tools allows a photoshop user to create a custom path to get his/her desired shape.
There are different types of Pen Tools. Most known Pen Tools are_
- Pen Tool
- Free-form Pen Tool
- Anchor Point Tool
- Delete Anchor Point Tool
- Convert Point Tool

In this tutorial, I will tell you ‘how to do a clipping path using the pen tool in photoshop’ in only 5 steps.
Step 1: Open Photoshop & Upload your Image
Step 2: Select Pen Tool from Main Toolbar
Step 3: Start drawing the clipping path
Step 4: Go to Layer Panel & Save Path
Step 5: Save your image file to your Desktop
STEP 1: OPEN PHOTOSHOP & UPLOAD YOUR IMAGE
I have already discussed what is ‘Adobe Photoshop. So, first, you need to have installed photoshop on your computer. There are a lot of Photoshop versions available online. I will recommend Adobe Photoshop CC 2019. Once you have your best editing software installed on your computer, you have to launch the software by clicking on the Photoshop icon.
STEP 2: SELECT PEN TOOL FROM MAIN TOOLBAR
Now I assume that you have already installed adobe photoshop on your computer. Double click on the icon of photoshop to launch photoshop. Once the photoshop window is open on your computer, you will see there is a horizontal menu bar on the left side of your photoshop interface. In this menu bar, you will see there are lots of tools to choose from. Each tool has different works. To do the clipping path we will choose ‘Pen Tool’ from the toolbar.
There are 6 different types of Pen Tool available in photoshop. These 6 pen tools are_
Pen Tool
Free-form Pen Tool
Curvature Pen Tool
Add Achor Point Tool
Delete Anchor Point Tool
Convert Point Tool.
Among those 6 Pen Tools, we will select ‘Pen Tool’ to do our clipping path.
STEP 3: START DRAWING THE CLIPPING PATH
You have opened your photoshop window, uploaded an image to do the clipping path, and also selected the pen tool from the left toolbar. Now it’s time to start drawing the path around your product!
To do this, first, you need to zoom your image up to 300% and choose any corner of the image to start drawing the clipping path. Click at the edge of your photo product and an anchor point will be created. Then you make another anchor point by adjusting with the product edge. Like this, you continue making anchor points until you come to the end to finish the Clipping Path.
STEP 4: GO TO LAYER PANEL & SAVE PATH
Once you have done with your clipping path- then it’s time to save the path! To do this, you will see a menu bar on the bottom right side of the photoshop window. That menu bar is called ‘Layer’. In the layer, you will see there are 4 options. These 4 options are_
Layers
3D
Channels
Paths
To save the path that you have already done, you have to choose paths and save from there. That is very simple, right?
STEP 5: SAVE YOUR IMAGE FILE TO YOUR DESKTOP
You have already done almost every step of your clipping path. Now it’s time to save the file that you have already worked on. To save your image, you will see a menu bar at the top of your computer screen. There at the top left, you will see an option named ‘File’. When you will click on the file option, a down menu bar will pop up. There you will see a function named ‘Save As’. Now, click on ‘Save As’.
After clicking on the ‘Save As’ button, a new window will pop up and will ask you where you want to save your files in which format. Now you choose your location and your desired image formate.
Now all the tasks are completed!
